Yucca Valley, CA  -  The Boys & Girls Club of the Hi Desert has announced a grant received from “The Community Foundation Serving Riverside & San Bernardino Counties” which will help the staff at the kids club continue in their goal towards assisting the youth of the community in their school work and learning.  “The grant is for the club’s PROJECT LEARN programs both during our Summer Day Camp special two hour a day Summer Learning Program, as well as our After School Program during the school year” said Executive Director, Sam Handley.  The summer program concludes August 12, 2011 and the school year program begins August 24, 2011.

The club was presented with the funds at a recent awards ceremony in Redlands. Presenting the funds was Celia Cudimat, Vice President of Grant Programs for the Community Foundation.  Executive Director Sam Handley accepted the funds on behalf of the local club.  The Boys & Girls Club has been serving the community for over 28 years and features age appropriate hourly programs as well as the homework and tutoring program, computer lab, Teen Center and healthy snacks. NEW BASKETBALL FALL LEAGUE START UP

The Boys & Girls Club is taking sign ups and holding basketball clinics during the next three weeks in anticipation of their Fall League for all children from age 5 - 18 (school age).

There will be teams for ages 5-7, ages 8-10, ages 11-14 and over 14 for both boys and girls.  The $60.00 per child fee includes use of team shirt and all clinics you choose to participate in.  The league games will begin mid-October and into December.

Families with multiple children may qualify for a discount; contact Executive Director Sam Handley for all applications and questions.

Sign ups are taken at the club, located at 56525 Little League Drive, Yucca Valley Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 6 PM.  You may contact Sam at 760-365-5437 as well.
